A Million Miles Away From Home
A Personal and Political Journey Through the War in Iraq
How can Americans be effective in opposing on-going war in Iraq?
Rosemary Palmer and
Paul Schroeder, whose Marine son Edward “Augie” Schroeder was killed in Iraq
last August, tell of their journey from quiet support for their son to political
activism.
Their 30-40 minute program is
available for any group or organization.

The program covers several issues involved in this conflict, including the face of war, the cost of war, and efforts to pressure the government to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq.
“We want people to see the face of war and understand the financial costs,” Schroeder said. “When most people are directly affected by war, we need to show what our involvement in Iraq is doing to the fabric of our society.
“While Augie was in Iraq, Rosemary and I kept silent,” said Schroeder. “In the wake of his death, we chose first to speak out against the way this war was being managed and then, finally, to organize that action into Families of the Fallen for Change.”
The program title “A Million Miles Away From Home” comes from a song written by Bob Stewart of Athens, Ohio in honor of Ohio’s 20 fallen Marines last August. “Augie seems like a million miles away now,” says Schroeder.
Palmer and Schroeder are founders of Families of the Fallen for Change, an organization with more than 1,500 members nationwide that is pushing for withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.
