Sample Letter to Congressional Representatives
The President continues to stay the course with American involvement in Iraq. Therefore, a solution to American military involvement in Iraq must come from Congress.
FOF members are urged to write their two U.S. senators and their local U.S. House representatives to voice their demand that Congress take action on this issue. Members should also send letters to the leadership of both the Senate and House.
Addresses for your representative and senators, plus Democrat and Republican leadership in the House and Senate, are listed below.
These letters should ask Congressional Republicans and Democrats focus on withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq at the earliest possible opportunity.
Here is a sample letter, though you are free to write what you wish.
Dear Senator (or Representative) :
Fellow members of Families of the Fallen for Change and I ask you and both parties in Congress to put aside all partisanship and come up with a responsible American exit from Iraq.
It is clear President Bush will not act quickly to end this war. Every delay by Congress means additional American troops will be killed after military leaders have said this war cannot be won militarily. This is unconscionable and immoral.
Our message to Congress and its leadership is simple: focus on negotiating a political solution to our involvement in Iraq and pursue withdrawal of American troops as soon as possible.
There is no time to lose: Americans -- not to mention Iraqi civilians -- continue to die every day.
Sincerely,
Addresses for your local representative and your state's two Senators can be found here:
