Families of the Fallen
for Change
Members' Profile
Families of the Fallen for Change has grown from two members on November 21 to nearly 1,300. Membership forms continue to come in on a daily basis, indicating that Americans are tired of the death, destruction and cost of the Iraq War.
Our members constitute a cross-section of America. They are Republicans and Democrats. They come from Red States and Blue States (every state except Alabama, Mississippi and Alaska). They are men and women. They are elderly, middle age, and young. They come from professions, business, and labor.
About half of them are veterans, mostly Vietnam but some from World War II, Korea, the Gulf War, and Iraq. Veterans are Army, Navy, and Air Force and with a majority from the Marines Corps. Many are also active military personnel. Some have been to Iraq. Some will be deployed there soon.
A summary of members’ comments show that, as a group, they are angry about three issues:
1. They believe Americans have been lied to regarding the reasons for going to Iraq. The perception is that the President lied about why we had to go to war. Whether he lied or was misinformed is immaterial.
2. They believe it is possible to separate support of the troops from support for the war policy. Our members categorically reject and are offended by the notion that support of the troops requires support for the mission.
3. They are fed up with the partisan bickering between Congress and the Administration and between Congressional representatives. They demand a bi-partisan solution to our continuing involvement in Iraq as quickly as possible. The frequently note that the 2006 mid-term election will hinge on this issue.
